Get involved…
First off, we’re really grateful that you’ve taken the time to come here. We’re just starting out and we want to ask you a favour. We want you to treat this as your space and your theatre as much as ours. We want it to work for you. Maybe you have an idea for a new episode? Maybe you think something’s missing? Or you have a talent to share. Please let us know… (more info)
What we are doing here…
The heart of The Narrativist is to send out into the world stories that matter; stories of the good deeds and positive changes people are making for their community. At home or at large. Through drama, comedy and conversation we explore the narratives behind these issues and discover why they deserve our attention.
How we do it…
Every episode we look at a different problem currently facing society. We present an audio-play which unpacks some of its theme and we hear from people who actively engage with it in their daily life.
What to expect from our guest…
Our guests dedicate their time and efforts to making life better for others, sometimes a couple of evenings a month, sometimes a lifetime. We think that makes them worth hearing from. They share with us what first spurred them into action and how they keep up the motivation, even in the toughest times. We learn how they have shaped the narrative, so we can too.
What to expect from the audio-play…
Original content from brilliant new writers and fantastic voice talents. Comedy, dramas, fiction and fantasy… Whatever route takes us all to the heart of the issue. We love audio and we think it’s a great medium to tell these stories. We know it doesn’t get enough use. We know it has a slightly dusty relationship to the age of the wireless. We also know that no other medium allows you so close to the characters and the action, right in the breath of it and still lets you see their world as you imagine it to be. To us, the ability to imagine another world is empowering and we hope it is for you too.
What’s next…
Our next episode is out on 16 November and we’ll be sharing stories around clean air. For a full list of our episodes, click here.
What’s a Narrativist…
Imagine you’re in a bar and someone tells a story you think is great. Narrativist. Imagine you’re reading a book which you can’t put down. Narrativist. You watched a life changing movie? Narrativist. Now lets imagine you’re deciding which way to go in a life changing vote. Or imagine you’re fleeing a war zone and you’ve put down all hopes of finding home. Imagine if no-one in a bar talked about climate change? … We need those narratives, good ones, and we need people to tell them. Good people. Narratives help us prepare for the future; in them, we understand the past and now. A narrativist does more than tell a story, they change lives and the world around them.
Stories are the fabric of society and the power is in the telling.
Let’s tell some good stories…
